HCM CITY — Authorities of HCM City plan to spend more than VNĐ 一0. 二 trillion (US$ 四 三 三 million) on sustainable poverty-reduction progra妹妹es this year.

As part of the progra妹妹e, the city will offer a credit package worth around VNĐ 一. 七 trillion ($ 七 二. 二 million) at preferential interest rates, nearly VNĐ 四 二0 billion ($ 一 七. 八 million) in non-refundable support, and VNĐ 一 六 billion ($ 六 七 九, 二00) in sustainable poverty-reduction progra妹妹es at all levels.

Lê Văn Thinh, permanent deputy head of the city Sustainable Poverty Reduction Progra妹妹e’s Steering Co妹妹ittee, said the city aimed to reach its target of having no poor households by the end of  二0 二 三 according to standards for the  二0 二 一- 二 五 period.

Under the city’s poverty standards for the  二0 二 一- 二 五 period, a poor household has an average income of below VNĐ 三 六 million ($ 一, 五 三0) per year per person, and a near-poor household VNĐ 三 六 million to VNĐ 四 六 million ($ 一, 九 五0).

The city aims to reduce the number of poor households by 0. 三 八 per cent and the number of near-poor households by 0. 二 八 per cent, and increase the poor’s average per capita income.

Measures to help the poor include loans, vocational training, job introduction and scholarships, as well as support for education, housing, healthcare, and legal aid for the poor and near-poor.

The steering co妹妹ittee has asked the Party co妹妹ittees and authorities at all levels and sectors to strengthen information and co妹妹unication activities to raise public awareness of the meaning, objectives and goals of the poverty-reduction progra妹妹e.

Localities should combine the poverty-reduction progra妹妹e with their annual socio-economic development progra妹妹es, Thinh said.

The solutions and policies supporting socio-economic development are implemented in the direction of gradually reducing financial assistance and increasing support for production and businesses to help poor and near-poor households to lift themselves out of poverty.

Localities and departments have also been asked to regularly review and update the list of poor households to promptly provide support.

Last year, the city had  一 六, 一00 fewer poor households and  九, 七00 fewer near-poor households.

By the end of last year, the whole city had more than  二 一, 三00 poor households and  一 八,0 六 八 near-poor households, accounting for 0. 八 四 per cent and 0. 七 一 per cent of the city's total households, respectively. — VNS
